Sgt. Dan Oblinger (ret) served over 21 years with the Wichita (KS) Police Department before retiring in 2024. He worked for a decade as an investigator and supervisor on a proactive, undercover counter-human trafficking team and for 13 years as a crisis/hostage negotiator and crisis negotiations commander. During his career, he has been a task force officer for the US Marshals, FBI, and Homeland Security Investigations.
Oblinger and his counter-trafficking team adopted a holistic approach to impacting human trafficking through disruption and interdiction within the commercial sex venues in his city. They championed a victim-centered approach to promoting survivorship, and made a deep commitment to demand reduction. Dan now consults with law enforcement agencies to train, support, and run joint counter-human trafficking operations and investigations so that these partner agencies can install excellent systems to combat trafficking in their communities!
Dan is the recipient of the 2024 Kansas Attorney General’s Outstanding Criminal Justice Victim Service Award. He still serves with the Butler County (KS) Sheriff as a Reserve Deputy working human trafficking and related cases. Oblinger lives on the Kansas prairie with his wife Myle; Together, they have six children.
